Fitness experts agree that a healthy diet and weight loss plan is the best way to lose weight. Many people do not want to put in the time and effort, so they try fasting as a means of losing weight. Fasting can work, but it is not healthy, and could actually lead to more weight gain in the end.
One of the major problems with juice fasting is that it does not provide your body with enough calories. When you lose weight on a fast you lose some fat, but you also lose muscle and water weight. The amount of lean muscle in your body determines how fast your metabolism runs. When you lose muscle your metabolism slows down as a result. That means that even as you are dropping weight on the fast your metabolism getting slower and slower.
The bad side of this diet is that it can actually backfire on you because your body has a natural defense mechanism to keep itself from starving to death. This will cause you to lose weight less quickly the longer you remain on a water only diet. After the first few days of your water only fast, your body will burn up all of its stored sugars. At this point, it will think that there is a shortage of food and that it needs to protect you from starving. This defense mechanism is what will cause your metabolism rate to slow.
However, it has to be noted that fasting in itself cannot be used to lose weight. It should be a part of a much larger weight loss plan. Fasting for weight loss is not a one stop solution for weight loss. The advantages of fruit diet is not in the weight it helps you lose, but in the fact that it cleanses your system of toxins and wastes and this promotes the healthy functioning of the body. This increases the body's metabolism and hence puts you in a good state to burn the calories faster leading to more weight loss. However, you should have a proper food and diet plan that you should follow to lose weight.
Another problem, is that the quick results you see when fasting, the results that make the option so
appealing, are often not what they appear to be. When a person attempts fasting for weight loss and succeeds, they have succeeding in losing fluid, not substantial weight loss.
The result of this is that as soon as the fasting stops, and it has to otherwise it becomes a dangerous eating disorder, the person puts all of the weight back on. Though fasting for weight loss gets results, the results are very temporary.
This is why fasting for weight loss is not effective. Your body's metabolism slows down, and whatever weight loss you experience will return and may even double if you are not careful. Since the body's system has been cleansed, you will need less food to do the same activities that you normally do. But if you eat the same amount of food before the fast, then you are more than likely to gain weight, and even double your size because your metabolism has slowed down.
